Telling Tales

elders serving up a smorgasbord of life

Older people have amazing stories to share with their families and communities and what if these people are given the opportunity to not only tell and record their stories but to present them in a theatrical event that celebrates their lives and experiences. Telling Tales provides this opportunity.

Why Telling Tales exists

Telling Tales is important to individuals and communities - celebrating elders, recognising the value of lives and experiences, while at the same time challenging the stereotypes of ageing.

The Telling Tales process

Telling Tales is, at its heart, a creative arts and capacity building project using oral history, music, theatre and mentoring.

Everybody has a story

Dive deep into the colourful history of the Tale Tellers - from the Queen of the Blues to the WWII pilot - engaging, life stories told with humour and courage.

“I’m here, so are you, let’s travel this road together.”

We know that when you hear our Tale Teller’s stories you will be moved to tears and laughter. In all the years we have been presenting Telling Tales, rarely have we heard an older person bemoan their age. To the contrary, they share their stories with the joy of youth, the wisdom of age and the generosity of spirit.
